Ism

An ism that exists today is Catholicism. Catholicism is a Christian religion and there is a set of values and practices related to Catholicism. Catholicism is parcticed in many places including the United States. Vatican City in Rome is where the pope, who is the head of Catholicism, lives.

Factory Act of 1833

The Factory Act of 1833 stated that it was illegal to hire children under nine years of age. It also stated that children from the ages of 9 to 12 could not work more than eight hours per day, and that young people from 13 to 17 were not allowed to work more than 12 hours a day. This act came about after Parliament had a committee look into child labor. I think this was a great reform to pass at the time. I feel as though children were worked way too hard and to make matters worse they were working about half they day, some children were working more hours than they were sleeping.

GPS

One useful, current invention is the GPS. The GPS stands for global positioning system and was created by a number of people, among them were Ivan Getting, Bradford Parkinson, and Roger Easton. The GPS has changed the world greatly. When you are traveling and are unfamiliar with an area, you can just type the address into the GPS and it tells you exactly how to get there, step by step, street by street. Instead of getting worked up and frusturated about not knowing where to go, the GPS helps put people at ease. 

The Seed Drill

In about 1701, Jethro Tull invented the seed drill. The seed drill made it possible for farmers to sow seeds in  far apart distanaces at precise depths. The seed drill changed the world by improving crop yields. More seeds grew, aloowing farmers crops to be more successful thus helping them to make more money and to generate better products. 

The Electric Light Bulb

During the Industrial Revolution, Thomas Edison invented the electric light bulb. The electric light bulb allows people to see easier. Because of the electric light bulb, people didn't have to use candles to see any more which helped them produce better products and see further distances.  

The Telephone

One important invention created during the Industrial Revolution was the telephone which was invented by Alexander Graham Bell. The telephone allows you to talk to someone at a far distance by just dialing seven digits. The telephone made communication much simpler by enabling people to talk without them having to be in the same room, people can talk to each other from different cities, states and countries

Introduction

My blog is entitled Chapter 9 and is about  Chapter 9, the Industrial Revolution.

The Industrial Revolution began in England and was when the output of machine goods escalated.

Through this blog I hope to accomplish a better understanding of the Industrial Revolution and I hope to use it as a menas of studying/reviewing for the test.
